SPEAKER
The speaker this week was Steve Apostolopoulos, who represented the family that is developing the 240 acres at the North/West corner of Church & Bayly.  The family business is vast and includes the former Pontiac Silver Dome, a European Soccer team and approximately 2000 acres in Durham Region.  They are looking at a project in the range of 1.6 billion dollars.  A full casino is on their wish list, but project not dependent on it.  "Durham Live" to be classified as a Tourist Entertainment District.  They are considering at water park, Hotel and convention centre, trampoline Park, Out door amphitheater and potentially an office tower.  With a casino they estimate 7,000 to 12,000 jobs, and 4,000 to 5,000 construction jobs.  Several options for access and other traffic issues are being considered.  It will be very interesting to see the outcome!
