Fill A Purse for a Sister
This year, the Rotary Club of Ajax will be partnering with Fill a Purse for a Sister to collect 100 purses to be donated to local shelters and given to women fleeing intimate partner violence. The Rotary Club of Ajax is pleased to announce that it has organized a September1 – December 1, 2026 campaign, in partnership with the charity Fill the Purse for a Sister - https://fillapurseforasistercampaign.ca -, to collect 100 purses to be donated to local shelters and then given to women fleeing intimate partner violence.
The aim of the campaign is to provide comfort, hope, and dignity to women in crisis by providing these purses filled with essential personal items. All contributions support domestic violence shelters, women’s shelters, rape crisis centers, and social services that support women in need. Often a woman arrives at a shelter with nothing – no money, no luggage and no resources. A purse filled with these products answers an immediate need for basic supplies.
Ajax Rotary will have containers in public spaces for community donations. Nonetheless we are appealing to local businesses to sponsor a new or very gently used purse filled with the essential items of: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, tampons/pads and deodorant. Other useful items include: a comb/hairbrush, lip balm, hat, gloves, scarf, etc. Monetary donations are also accepted. Such donations are used to purchase purses and/or the items to fill them.
